The Duchenne Research Fund is pleased to share that the KineDMD study has been extended into 2021/22. KineDMD is Dr Aldo Faisal’s ground-breaking artificial intelligence study at Imperial College London, in collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital, which aims to accelerate Duchenne muscular dystrophy research and clinical trials.
KineDMD is open for recruitment for both ambulant and non-ambulant boys aged 6-17. If you would like any further information or would like to be involved in the study please don’t hesitate to contact research [at] duchenne.org.uk
Boys and young men wear non-intrusive sensors at home to enable clinicians to monitor their activity 24/7 and gather more accurate data about their movements and mobility. They also wear an AI bodysuit a few times in the clinic to evaluate their progress. It is projected that monitoring patients’ progression with sensors and using Dr Faisal’s unique algorithmic analysis could reduce the timescale of future clinical trials by up to 50%. This would save enormous costs and clinical resources and may be able to much more quickly evaluate whether a new drug or treatment being trialled is effective for the patient.
